Description:

The Orthodontic Records/Sterilization Technician is responsible for taking clear and precise orthodontic records and ensuring the highest standards of sterilization and infection control. This role is critical in supporting orthodontic procedures by preparing and sterilizing instruments, taking patient records, and assisting with various clinical tasks to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow within the clinic.

Records Management:

  • Patient Records: Take photos and all types of radiographic images for clear and precisely accurate patient records.
  • Imaging: Capture and process digital X-rays, photos, and other diagnostic images using appropriate equipment and software.
  • Data Entry: Enter patient information into the electronic health record (EHR) system, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Documentation: Assist in the preparation and updating of treatment charts and documents as required by orthodontists.
Sterilization Duties:
  • Instrument Sterilization: Clean, disinfect, and sterilize all orthodontic instruments and equipment following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
  • Sterilization Monitoring: Perform regular checks and maintenance of sterilization equipment, ensuring proper functioning and compliance with safety standards.
Clinical Support:
  • Assisting Orthodontists: Assist orthodontists during patient procedures, ensuring all necessary instruments and materials are ready and accessible.
  • Patient Preparation: Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process, ensuring they are comfortable, and setting up the treatment area.
  • Post-Procedure Tasks: Clean and prepare treatment areas for the next patient, including disinfecting surfaces and organizing instruments.
Administrative Duties:
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members, providing clear instructions and answering any questions.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all regulatory and clinic-specific protocols, including confidentiality and data protection policies.
Continuous Improvement
  • Training: Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices and advancements in orthodontic care and sterilization techniques.
  • Feedback: Provide feedback to improve clinic procedures and enhance patient care.

Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Prior experience is highly desirable, however, not required.
  • Skills: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication abilities.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, manual dexterity, and the ability to lift and handle equipment and supplies.
