Salary : $52,000.00 - $72,467.20 AnnuallyLocation : Idaho Falls, IDJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 2024-1114Department: Parks and RecreationDivision: Parks ZooOpening Date: 11/14/2024Closing Date: 11/22/2024 11:59 PM MountainGeneral Purpose The City of Idaho Falls and the Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park is currently looking for a Zoo/Funland Facilities Maintenance Specialist. In this position you will perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties related to the construction, repair and maintenance of Funland rides and facilities. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the direction of the Zoo Facilities Manager. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Provides close supervision to regular seasonal and temporary personnel. Essential Functions Oversees day-to-day operation and maintenance of carnival rides, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and efficient utilization of resources. Enforce strict adherence to safety guidelines and regulations, conducting routine inspections and audits to mitigate risks and hazards. Develop comprehensive maintenance schedules for all carnival rides, coordinating repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance tasks to uphold optimal performance standards. Provide guidance, training, and support to ride operators and operate rides, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.Setup, take down and general maintenance of rides to ensure safe operations.Utilize mechanical expertise to diagnose and resolve technical issues promptly, minimizing downtime and ensuring uninterrupted operation of rides.Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and incident reports, generating comprehensive reports for management review and regulatory compliance.Cleans and maintains Funland ride areas, offices, equipment and tool storage areas. Evaluates and repairs Funland facilities and informs zoo management of repairs needed, whether they are extensive or minor. Perform repairs and construction by utilizing a variety of hand and power tools to ensure the safety of the employees, volunteers and the public. Maintains lawns, flowerbeds and gardens. Prunes shrubs and trees. Applies fertilizers and pesticides as necessary. Plans and designs new sprinkler systems, maintains irrigation systems. Maintains appropriate records including but not limited to repair of rides and grounds. Responsible for snow removal from paths, walls, drive areas, parking areas and service areas as needed. Observes public to ensure that safety regulations are adhered to. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: A. Graduation from standard senior high school or equivalent; AND B. Four (4) years of experience in construction, maintenance, mechanic, or related trade; OR C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.2. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Working knowledge of the operation of common hand and power tools; working knowledge of the operation of light equipment such as lawn mower, weed whip, tractor, skid-steer; working knowledge of preventative maintenance systems. Strong mechanical aptitude and technical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain various ride systems, including mechanical and electrical components. Ability to determine needs for services and supplies necessary to carry out the task; lift and carry moderately heavy loads; operate equipment and power tools; establish and follow through on work priorities; make quality decisions in emergencies; understand and follow routine verbal or written instruction; ability to learn quickly and adapt to unique requirements of the position; ability to perform strenuous physical labor; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to develop effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees the public and volunteers.Conduct regular inspections of rides to assess their mechanical condition, cleanliness, and overall safety. Perform maintenance to address any issues promptly and ensure rides are properly maintained and operational.Manage ride queues and throughput to optimize ride capacity and minimize wait times for patrons. Coordinate with other staff members to ensure smooth operation of the carnival, including ticket sales, crowd control, and sanitation.Provide excellent customer service by addressing patron inquiries, concerns, and complaints in a timely and professional manner. Act as a point of contact for patrons and handle any issues that arise during ride operation. 3. Special Qualifications: Must possess a valid Idaho State Driver's License. Must be able to work weekends, evenings and holidays. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Maintain First Aid and CPR Certification. Work Environment Tasks require a variety of physical activities generally involving muscular strain. Physical demands may occur in activities related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting, etc. Talking, hearing and seeing required in the daily performance of job duties. Exposure to weather, environmental hazards and dangers resulting from working around dangerous rides and equipment.
