Job Title: Ink Technician Master

Reports to: Manufacturing Department Manager

Job Summary

Ink Technician Master acts as the subject matter expert in color matching, formulating, and small batch ink blending. The Master Technician is responsible for supporting the Print Press department by providing creating and maintaining color standards, ensuring ink quality, and providing technical support to press operators and other team members. In order to provide the bet support levels possible, the Ink Technician Master is also responsible for learning how to operate various print presses and assisting with job changeovers. The Ink Technician Master position requires the ability for on-call duty as needed including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Essential Duties
  • Train and mentor other technicians in color theory, color matching and toning, quality standards, and proper use of ink-related equipment.
  • Correctly read and interpret print schedule in order to prioritize order of ink creation.
  • Accurately weigh, measure, and mix inks to meet color specifications, formulas, and customer requirements.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines when handling and disposing of inks and chemicals.
  • Perform quality checks throughout the print run and records results of quality measures such as ink scuff adhesion, density, dot gain, and print color.
  • Clean and maintain ink mixing equipment, pumps, and containers.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting to technicians press operators, and assistants including issues with ink viscosity and flow, printing defects, color matching, and draw downs.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance on ink-related equipment and report any malfunctions to manager.
  • Identify opportunities to improve ink formulation processes, efficiency, and quality control procedures.
  • Manage and track ink inventory, provide order information for raw materials, and ensure sufficient quantities are available for production needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of ink formulations, color matches, usage, and quality control data.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • A strong understanding of ink chemistry, color theory, ink mixing principles. and printing processes.
  • Proficiency in color matching techniques, using spectrophotometers, and other tools to ensure color accuracy.
  • Familiarity with various printing processes and their impact on ink performance.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems related to ink quality, color matching, and press operation.
  • A high level of attention to detail to ensure accuracy in ink formulations and quality control procedures.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems for color matching, inventory management, data recording, and other tasks.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret formulas and job specifications.
  • Proficiency in using weighing, measuring, and material handling equipment.
  • Knowledge of ink testing methods and equipment (e.g., viscometer, spectrophotometer, etc.).
  • Ability to plan, organize and oversee multiple projects and operations.
  • Ability to communicate in both the written and spoken language of English to a level that will allow the safe and effective performance of the job.
Education and Experience
  • Minimum five years of experience in color theory, ink formulation, and color matching.
  • Proficiency in using ink mixing and dispensing equipment, measuring equipment, and color matching software.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods of time.
  • Capability to lift and carry objects of various weights up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Proficiency in using hands, fingers, and arms for tasks such as writing, typing, and using measuring tools.
  • Sufficient visual acuity to read documents and recognize details at close and distant ranges.
  • Ability to hear and understand verbal communication.
  • Flexibility to bend, stoop, and reach low or high objects.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying heavy objects.
  • Adaptability to work in varying environmental conditions, such as temperature extremes, noise, dust, or fumes, depending on the nature of the job.
  • Willingness to adhere to safety protocols and wear protective gear, including helmets, goggles, gloves, and safety shoes, as required by the job.
