Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an experienced Masters of Science level Weld Engineer, Material Scientist, Materials Engineer, or Metallurgist. to work in our Materials Properties Department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off. You will report to the Department Manager.
You will focus on research and development in joining and welding of both current and exotic materials. The role includes working with advanced manufacturing techniques such as welding-based 3D metal printing, casting, solidification, and thermomechanical processing. Candidates with experience in alloy development and a strong background in joining and welding technologies for applications in harsh environments will be ideal. You must integrate modeling and simulation into the development of processes and materials, and will lead teams as a principal investigator, securing funding and guiding unique laboratory research studies.

Minimum Requirements:
Masters or Ph.D. in Materials Science or Materials Engineering in welding engineering or other engineering discipline from an accredited university, with 2 years experience.
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship
The Ideal Candidate will have the following:
Experience in advanced manufacturing and 3D metal printing (on current methods including single and multi-wire weld arc additive manufacturing (WAAM and m-WAAM)/ gas melt arc (GMA) additive manufacturing), casting/solidification and thermomechanical processing to support alloy development will be considered.
Proficiency in advanced manufacturing, computational methods and programming, computer aided design
(CAD) and thermo-mechanics.
Experience in PYTHON programming, thermo-structural analysis software (such as ABAQUS), computation fluid dynamics tools and CAD (STAR-CCM+, Solidworks, Inventor, and high-performance computing systems, image analysis and visualization.
Job Information:
The pay range for this position is $91,008 - $186,588. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required. Position requires the ability to smell.
