Description:

The PACS / Enterprise Imaging Systems Engineer will serve as a technical and workflow expert responsible for the support, maintenance, integration, and optimization of imaging systems across a multi-site healthcare enterprise. This role will lead system upgrades, modality onboarding, workflow redesign efforts, and cross-department technical collaboration to ensure imaging data is efficiently captured, transmitted, stored, and available to clinical teams. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in PACS, DICOM, imaging workflow, and clinical stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities
PACS Administration & System Support

  • Manage daily operations of enterprise PACS, VNA, and associated imaging systems across radiology, cardiology, and specialty imaging.
  • Monitor system performance, study routing, network transmission, and storage availability to ensure reliable clinical operations.
  • Troubleshoot modality connectivity issues, DICOM transmission errors, and workflow interruptions; perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain, update, and configure imaging system software, servers, and virtual environments.
Project Leadership & System Upgrades
  • Lead PACS upgrade planning, execution, testing, and go-live across multi-site environments.
  • Coordinate site acquisitions, PACS migrations, data transfers, modality reconfiguration, and workflow standardization.
  • Serve as liaison between clinical teams, IT infrastructure, vendor support, network engineering, and information security to ensure alignment of requirements.
Workflow Optimization & Clinical Support
  • Conduct workflow assessments with radiologists, technologists, cardiologists, and clinicians to identify efficiency and data integrity improvements.
  • Standardize image acquisition, labeling, routing, and viewing workflows for consistency and quality.
  • Develop and deliver training, competency documentation, knowledge base materials, and support resources for clinical staff and IT stakeholders.
Enterprise Integration & Interoperability
  • Configure and manage DICOM, HL7, API integrations, and system interfaces connecting modalities, PACS, RIS, EMR, and VNA.
  • Support and optimize post-processing tools and clinical image visualization environments.
  • Ensure compliance with security, privacy, regulatory, and organizational policy requirements.


Qualifications
Required
  • 7+ years of experience in PACS administration, enterprise imaging, or clinical imaging systems engineering (20+ years preferred for Sr. Level).
  • Hands-on experience with DICOM standards, modality configuration, system routing, and imaging workflow troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of clinical imaging workflows and end-user requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or upgrading PACS solutions in mid-to-large healthcare environments.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with clinicians, IT teams, vendor partners, and leadership stakeholders.
Preferred
  • Experience with Agfa, Philips Intellispace, Fuji, Ambra, or similar PACS/VNA platforms.
  • Knowledge of HL7 interfaces, DICOM routers, and RIS/EMR linkages.
  • Background in network topology, Active Directory, virtualization environments, and data center architecture.
  • CIIP certification or related imaging informatics training.
