Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Department Manager

Apply for the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Department Manager role at Idaho National Laboratory.

The Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) at Idaho National Laboratory (INL) seeks a department manager to report to the MFC Engineering Division Director. The manager will support 4x10 operations with every Friday off and lead engineering efforts for nuclear fuel research and development.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the department through subordinate supervisors and professionals.
  • Provide guidance within company policy limits.
  • Ensure effective operation of major department activities.
  • Make decisions that impact the team and influence methods and techniques.
  • Execute financials, business planning, and workforce planning to achieve realistic budgets, schedules, and standards.
  • Manage employees with similar tasks, including supervisors, exempt, and non?exempt staff.
  • Determine resources needed to meet schedules and goals.
  • Lead a single function, location, or technical discipline.
  • Recommend policy and procedure changes affecting the department or multiple disciplines.
  • Participate in developing overall objectives and long?term goals of the department and possibly the division.
  • Interact with subordinate supervisors and functional peers across units.
  • Partner with key external contacts and stakeholders.
  • Communicate and present results and recommendations across disciplines.
  • Handle human?resources responsibilities at the third level of management.
  • Report to a director, senior director, or senior leadership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
  • Engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Aerospace, or a closely related ABET?accredited field.
  • Minimum BS with 8 years of relevant experience or MS with 6 years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DOE "L" security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with staff development.
  • Advanced engineering degree.
  • Professional Engineering license.
  • Experience with DOE nuclear facilities or commercial/naval nuclear operations.

Job Information

Target pay range: $153,733 $231,971. Full range: $105,516 $269,052.
