BRAND INSPECTOR - IDAHO FALLS

We are looking for two full?time Brand Inspectors to serve in the Idaho Falls District. One position will primarily cover the McCammon/Downey area, and the other will cover Mud Lake and surrounding areas. The role requires a full background investigation and polygraph examination.

Qualified applicants may attend POST academy after probation. Current or former POST?certified law enforcement officers may be eligible for a higher starting salary.

Responsibilities

  • Determine ownership and issue inspection certificates for legal sale, transport, and slaughter of livestock.
  • Visually inspect livestock for ownership brands, marks, and physical characteristics.
  • Inspect animals in the field, at feedlots, sale yards, and slaughterhouses.
  • Notify buyers if a security agreement has been filed.
  • Restrain and clip animals for inspection and cooperate with animal health authorities to ensure vaccination and disease?control standards are met.
  • Communicate laws and regulations pertaining to livestock identification, transportation, and exchange.
  • Issue hold orders pending ownership claims.
  • May testify in court.
  • Collect and submit money received for inspections prior to sale, slaughter, change of ownership, or transportation of animals out of state.
  • Account for money and write receipts.
  • Record inspection data and write inspection summary reports as well as incident and investigation reports.
  • Explain laws and regulations to the public and implement brand policy and procedures.
  • Assist owners in recovering or preventing theft of livestock.
  • Assist federal and state agencies in establishing ownership and proper disposition of animals under the Wild Horse and Burro Act.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to identify livestock by breed, age, and sex.
  • Experience roping and restraining large animals.
  • Skill in visually identifying brands, tags, and markings.
  • Experience moving and marketing livestock.
  • Fluency with computers and mobile devices for data entry and retrieval.
  • Valid driver's license.
