Eastern Idaho Public Health is seeking a full-time Women Infant Children (WIC) Clinical Assistant in our Idaho Falls Office.

Candidates must be bilingual and able to speak and write Spanish fluently. Please indicate your bilingual status on your resume.

CLASS PURPOSE:

To perform paraprofessional clinical duties; establish and maintain client records; conduct in-depth interviews to gather client data; provide clients health and community program resource information; perform related work.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

Employees in this classification spend approximately 60% of their time working directly with external customers. This level requires authority, knowledge, and judgment to independently answer more complicated requests where there are no clear procedural responses. Decisions made have a high consequence of error and may have potential legal implications.

DUTIES:

• Provide direct customer service, both in person and over the phone, including scheduling appointments per program guidelines, contacting participants about program services, and following up on appointments.
• Describe program requirements, participant rights, and obligations during the certification process, and explain the use of program benefits.
• Inform participants about other community health and social service resources.
• Complete WIC appointments with appropriate education, documentation, and referrals.
• Perform anthropometric measurements and hemoglobin tests.
• Utilize various computer programs to input data and verify participant information.
• Work on assigned reports.
• Promote breastfeeding as the preferred method of infant feeding, provide breastfeeding support, and refer participants to the Peer Counseling program as needed.
• Conduct program outreach as assigned.
• Maintain an inventory of WIC supplies.
• Attend and participate in required meetings and training sessions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Basic knowledge of the health and nutritional needs of adults and children.
• Experience in interviewing and gathering personal information.
• Ability to interpret, explain, and apply regulations, laws, or complex policies; assess data using a computerized system; handle complaints and upset individuals independently in a business setting; and conduct sensitive fact-finding interviews.
• Proficiency in basic arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
• Experience recording information accurately and legibly.
• Bilingual. Fluent in speaking and writing in Spanish and English.
• Must have a valid driver's license, auto insurance, and the ability to use district vehicles for travel to other offices.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or GED certificate.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
• Fluent in both English and Spanish.
• This position requires adequate speech and hearing abilities to perform customer service tasks. The work environment may be noisy and crowded, with potential exposure to infectious diseases and interactions with hostile or aggressive clients. Most positions involve lifting and carrying children and objects, such as audiovisual equipment, boxes, or educational materials, weighing up to 40 pounds.
• Public health employees must be willing to participate in preparedness activities and training. They may also be asked to perform tasks within their skill levels that are not part of their regular job responsibilities. During emergencies, employees may be asked to work outside of normal hours to assist with response activities.
