Job Description

The Naval Reactors Facility Lifting and Handling Engineering team is seeking a highly skilled and motivated engineer to support a wide range of tasks to maintain reliable, high-quality cranes and weight handling equipment. These tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure the continued certification, safety, and operational readiness of all weight handling equipment.
  • Develop procedures providing technical instruction to operate and maintain weight handling equipment.
  • Issue specifications for new designs and equipment upgrades to support the procurement of new equipment.
  • Perform field engineering activities and troubleshooting to ensure equipment is maintained and ready for use.
    • Mechanical Engineers: crane structures, drive trains and gearboxes, hoist machinery, hoist and travel brakes, lubrication, rigging gear, crane rails, and railroad.
  • Conduct internal and external audits and surveillances to validate compliance and identify opportunities for improvement.

The successful candidate will contribute to the Lifting and Handling mission to ensure the continued certification, operational readiness, and safe use of all weight handling equipment at the Naval Reactors Facility. This position will require periodic support of backshift operations and some limited travel. Operations performed at the Naval Reactors Facility directly support nuclear operations of the United States naval fleet.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or Currently a Principal Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Preferred Skills

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering.
  • Crane and heavy equipment design, manufacturing, welding, testing, operations, maintenance, or troubleshooting experience.
  • Strong technical communications and team building skills.
  • Ability to manage and organize tasks effectively.
  • Project Management experience including schedule development, risk management, and stakeholder communications.

Pay Range

$105,200.00 - $164,400.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

All candidates must be U.S. citizens. Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter.
