Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) Naval Reactors Facility (NRF) Security Engineering is responsible for maintaining the physical security of the NRF site. The role includes researching new equipment, creating preventative maintenance procedures, creating work tasks, working on computer systems and networks, supporting the design of new facilities and infrastructure, and interpreting DOE manuals and orders as they apply to NRF.

The security engineer may support the NRF site during non-standard hours via phone communications or on-site visits. Security engineers work closely with Security Police officers, Facilities and Construction engineering, Instrumentation & Control technicians, NRF Locksmiths, and peers at the other NNL location.

Responsibilities include working with construction groups, reviewing drawings, supporting the development of physical security plans, reviewing power outages and excavation permits. Detail orientation, familiarity with construction drawings, and ability to work with multiple groups are essential.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, or science field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, or science field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; or
  • Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, or science field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or
  • Currently a Principal Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Preferred Skills

  • Degrees in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology are preferred.
  • Experience with construction drawing sets.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to all individuals within an organization.
  • Experience with power systems.

Pay Range

$117,900.00 - $184,300.00 annually
