Position Overview:

This position works at the Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) in Idaho Falls, ID, to support Boise State, ISU, UI, UW, INL, and external customers to access Microscopy and Characterization Suite (MaCS) and Advanced Materials Laboratory (AML) for their research activities, perform Authorized User work in the lab, and conduct research through collaborations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Support lab services. 30%

  1. Perform characterization of materials including electron microscopy (FIB/SEM, TEM) and chemical analysis; train new users on the equipment as needed.
  2. Interact with customers, assessing problems, and assisting in solving materials related problems.
  3. Safely handle, store, and dispose of radioactive materials on a daily basis.
  4. Maintain compliance with safety, security, and environmental regulations on the safe handling of chemicals and radioactive materials.
  5. Trouble shoot issues and coordinate the repair of equipment/tools as needed.

2. Perform Authorized User work under MaCS Director’s authority. 35%

3. Conduct research. 30%

4. Other duties as assigned. 5%

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D (or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant discipline), or Master’s degree plus at least 5 years of relevant post-master’s professional work experience.
